The goal of this project was to design and visualize a motorcycle based on a Hubless Wheel Chopper body type — a concept that combines unconventional mechanics with a strong visual identity. The process included research, ergonomic analysis, frame and body development, and the creation of a detailed 3D model rendered using a professional rendering engine.

The principle of the hubless wheel

A hubless wheel is characterized by the absence of a central hub. The axle is hollow, while the rotating elements are mounted on the outer ring using precision bearings. This configuration creates a striking visual appearance and alters traditional load paths, but it also introduces significant manufacturing challenges. High-precision machining, exposed components, and a non-traditional drivetrain make this a complex technical concept.

From research to design

The project began with an analysis of existing hubless wheel motorcycles, focusing on frame geometry, proportions, and mechanical layout. Ergonomic studies defined the rider’s position, handlebar height, and foot placement, aiming for a comfortable and controlled riding posture typical of classic choppers. The result is a low, elongated stance with a high handlebar and an upright seating position that supports both control and visibility.

Frame and structural layout

The frame was designed as a hard-tail construction — a rigid rear section without suspension — chosen for its simplicity and classic chopper aesthetics. The front fork connects the steering column to the hubless front wheel, with an emphasis on stiffness and visual balance. The rear wheel is mounted on bearings directly integrated into the frame, while engine power is transmitted via a traditional chain drive.

Form and functionality

The fuel tank features a combination of sharp and flowing lines, creating visual continuity and a muscular appearance. The lighting system integrates modern LED and xenon components, blending classic proportions with contemporary detailing. Every design decision was made to balance technical clarity with visual refinement.

3D modeling and visualization

The complete model was built in a professional 3D CAD environment, with all components assembled realistically. Rendering was carried out using a high-end render engine, with carefully tuned lighting balance, materials, and lens settings (35 mm focal length, f/1 aperture) to achieve a crisp, high-contrast result. The visuals highlight both the technical precision and the design intent of the project.

Result

The Hubless Wheel Chopper project demonstrates the full technical design process — from research and concept development to detailed CAD modeling and high-quality visualization. It brings aesthetics and engineering together in a modern interpretation of the classic chopper.
